Jersey Airport

Jersey airport is an extremely important part of the Island of Jersey's infrastructure as it connects the people and businesses who live there to both the British mainland and to numerous international destinations.

The current Jersey airport was first opened in 1937 and has, over the decades, undergone improvements and extensions such that it is now a very modern, accessible and comfortable airport both for travellers and for those who work there.

Jersey airport is served by over a dozen airlines including British Airways, Aer Lingus, Air Berlin and Flybe. As would be expected with an airport of this size, the majority of flight routes from Jersey airport are domestic. Of these domestic routes, the most popular are London Gatwick (by far), Southampton and to the neighbouring Channel Island of Guernsey. Somewhat surprisingly the airport also serves a good number of international destinations including routes to Dublin, Zurich, Dusseldorf, Geneva and Funchal. This is perhaps a reflection of the affluence of Jersey's residents which means that it is viable for airlines to run international routes for a relatively small population.

There are tremendous opportunities for picking up a bargain in Jersey airport given the great low or no duty shopping options available. If you want to pick up anything from a nice bottle of vintage Scotch whisky to a specced-out top of the range laptop at a significant discount, then you can definitely do so here.

In a typical year Jersey airport will serve just under 1.5 million passengers and over 80,000 aircraft. The airport is served well by its companion website which contains up-to-date flight information on arrivals, departures and delays. It has also fully integrated into 21st century communication channels with its own Facebook and Twitter accounts that provide important information and updates to followers.

There are two main car parks within Jersey airport, one of which is a long-stay car park and the other a short-stay car park. There are drop off zones, pick up zones and a regular bus service to take you from Saint Helier (Jersey's capital) to the airport.

To satisfy the eating and drinking requirements of the visitors to the airport there are several excellent outlets including The Island Coffee Shop and The Bar. Both are well priced and stock a wide range of food and drink.
